Black-eyed Susans are still blooming down here, I'm so glad! This is another attempt with the oils from the attic. It was very hard to get a brilliant yellow, or rather, to keep it brilliant yellow! In the actual painting, it's a bit more yellow-orange. They kept getting muddied-up. I did have fun with the bottle, it's more removed paint than applied paint.

I love this! I planted my garden this year with painting cut flowers in mind and I love how you cropped up just the top of the bottle....great composition and your yellows don't look muddy at all! What yellows did you use? I have trouble with yellows too!
ReplyDeleteThanks Kristen! I used Cad.Yellow Pale, Cad. Orange, and, uh... an unidentifiable yellow from Liquitex. The label has flaked off at that point! ha! When I put my lighter colors down, I think need to just leave it as is and not try to blend so much. Especially on such a small piece. I have so much to learn! :D
ReplyDeleteI love black eyed Susan, and try, and try, to obtain them from seeds...
ReplyDeleteGood painting, Elizabeth!
The colours look great...the yellows are just perfect and not at all muddy. The lovely blue background really sets off the flower so well.
ReplyDeleteA lovely little Susan! Such joyful colors Elizabeth.
ReplyDeleteI love it!
